Part of the reason for extracting your own CBD oil is to avoid using any harsh solvents or expensive equipment. Using our gentle simmer method, you’ll find that the CBD oil you create contains the full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes found in the hemp plants we grow and all the health benefits of organic coconut oil too.
Why Coconut Oil? Organic coconut oil provides a high percentage of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) which is a fantastic binding agent. The cannabinoids attach to the fat of the oil and increase the bioavailability of CBD in this recipe. The oil will remain solid at room temperature — something natural for coconut oil. For this reason, it’s easy to put into gel caps.
Both gelcaps and coconut oil can be purchased at our distribution company Azure Standard.
Easy for a home cook to do, this can be ingested or used topically. We hope you enjoy it!
You can make this in a slow cooker or double broiler. But either way, we recommend using a thermometer to ensure that your oil doesn’t get too hot and start breaking down the CBD.
INGREDIENTS:
1-2 cups of fresh hemp (can also be dried, if preferred)
1 cup of coconut oil
Cheesecloth
DIRECTIONS:
- Break up the hemp. You can grind it in a grinder if you prefer, but if the hemp is dried it is easy to break into smaller pieces with your hands.
- Melt the coconut oil with the hemp in a saucepan or double broiler. Heat the two together gently. Be sure the oil completely covers the hemp.
TWO METHODS:

SLOW COOKER:
Gently allow to simmer for 24 hours. Use a thermometer and do not allow to get warmer than 175°F
DOUBLE BROILER:
Melt and simmer in a saucepan or double broiler without allowing it to scorch for 3-6 hours. Do not allow the temperature of the oil to exceed 175°F. (Lower temperatures and longer cooking times yield different results than higher temperatures with shorter cooking times.)

Pour your infused oil into cheesecloth and strain. Oil can be stored at room temperature for several months or in the fridge for longer.
